Petroglyphs in Val d’Assa

The deep valley which divides Canove from Roana, in the homonymous municipality, preserves the oldest traces of human presence on the Asiago Plateau in some caves at the confluence of the Gheplach valley. In fact, the Cava degli Orsi and the Grotta Obar de Laute caves were probably inhabited in the Middle Paleolithic Age, between the first and the second phase of the Würm glaciation (50,000 – 35,000 years ago), as well as several areas rich in stone carvings of various ages (the oldest of them have 3,500 years). They are reachable by the following route.
