Campana, one of the 25 hamlets and districts in which the town of Lusiana is divided, has a tower with at its base one of the oldest bells in Veneto, dating back to 1388. On the bell tower there is also a nice watch in local marble and another working small bell. The first “Provveditore” (Superintendent) of the Plateau appointed by the Venetian Republic, Francesco Caldogno, described Lusiana in one of his reports as “the most fertile and beautiful and delightful place” in the municipality, with 2,550 inhabitants and extensive and abundant pastures able to feed 30,000 sheep. In the Covolo hamlet there is the small church of San Donato (St. Donatus) on a site dating back to 1100, while in the churches of the chief town and of the Santa Caterina hamlet some altarpieces by Jacopo Bassano are preserved. As evidence of ancient activities in the charming village of Valle dei Mulini a guided tour to the hydraulic machines of the past now partly restored to working order was made, which uses the waters of the Chiavone Bianco creek to grind grain, husk barley, strike iron, and saw wooden beams and planks. But the whole natural, historical and architectural heritage of Lusiana is now part of an ecomuseum.
