Quota Albania
Einaudi, 1971.
(Height Albania)
The events narrated in this book chronologically precede those narrated in The sergeant in the snow, in the period from the brief campaign of France (June 1940) to the war against Greece in the mountains of Albania (November 1940 – April 1941), and it was written reworking notes that the young “Alpino” had written on little notebooks he carried with him in his backpack.
In Quota Albania, born from the notes that the young Alpino wrote on small notebooks carried in his backpack, we find the nineteen-year-old corporal Rigoni engaged as a runner in long marches in the snow, through foreign mountains and yet so similar to those of his own home, with the knowledge of fighting a “dirty war” without neither strategies nor valid reasons.
