Asiago

The Duomo of San Matteo (St. Matthew), the main church of Asiago, was first built in 1393. After the destruction during the Great War it was rebuilt between 1922 and 1926, all in pink marble, such as the bell tower on the north side. It houses artworks and paintings by Francesco Da Ponte the Elder (the altarpiece of the Virgin behind the altar) and Francesco da Ponte the Younger (“Sant’Antonio Abate among Santa Giustina, Santa Lucia and San Rocco” on one side, and “San Vito and San Modesto” on the other), above the entrance to the Chapel of the Sacred Heart. Also relevant a “Via Crucis” by Palazzi and the Ruffatti organ with 3600 pipes.
